As the winner of Moksa Brewing Company’s 2021 Design Contest, I had the opportunity to create the label for their limited-release Hazy Double IPA, Overcast Echoes. This project was both a creative milestone and a deeply personal achievement, selected from dozens of entries submitted by artists aiming to break into the craft beer scene.
The design reflects a minimalist aesthetic, guided by a deliberate use of only three complementary colors to create bold visual contrast. I illustrated faceless, visionless portraits to symbolize sound and echo—expressing the invisible, resonating nature of auditory experience. These abstract figures are connected by wave-like lines that wrap around the can, visually mimicking the way sound travels and reverberates, much like the experience of tasting the beer itself.
Design Goals:
• Communicate the idea of sensory perception through minimalism
• Evoke movement and rhythm with layered linear elements
• Use color psychology to attract attention while maintaining artistic restraint
Beer Profile: Overcast Echoes is a Hazy DIPA brewed with Strata and El Dorado hops, delivering vibrant notes of ripe pineapple, satsuma tangerine, and orange creamsicle. At 8.2% ABV, its bold flavor matches the intensity and clarity of the visual design.
This project showcases my ability to translate abstract ideas into compelling visual narratives and reflects my evolving journey as a beer label designer. It’s a celebration of minimalism, emotion, and the power of craft—both in design and brewing.
